@Justin Well it looks like they will continue to keep people there with out a trial though according to Obama. http://www1.voanews.com/english/news/war/Yemenis-Comprise-Half-of-Prisoners-Held-at-Guantanamo-Bay-80863292.html

One man can not make that much of a difference, people have to stand up and change their attitudes. Before Bush a lot was getting done under Clinton, even though he lost the majority support he still got a lot done. So I think you will have to keep it to 8 years not 15.

Re: Health Care, lets not count our chickens before there hatched, Truman could have gotten something though but as he put it, it was better to have no healthcare system then a bad one. Every inch of the way the big medical industry and big insurance companies are getting involved. There is still hope for it, but there is also still much more risk of it being ruined, ESPECIALLY now with all the closed door talks and the attitude that there has to be compromise with the republicans on this one. IF it passes an IF it is still a functional useful system not just in place to make big business more money from the tax payers pocketbook, then yes I will give him that.

Newark airport is kinda out of Obama's power for the moment. Guantanamo's just a horrible morass, at least they're trying people in civilian courts now.

And yeah, if the repubs take either chamber, it's going to be horrendous. They are anti-gov't extremists at this point. Nothing will get done, just like the prev 15 years.

IMHO the health insurance overhaul and stimulus are pretty huge:

I think he's gonna save making airport security rational for later in his term -- no matter what he changes and how much it's for the better, the Repubs will attack.

@Justin I agree with you almost 100%. Unfortunately Obama is having little success with much of anything. At the rate he is going I am afraid it will be to late. He has not been successful with really any major promise. A lot of this could be that the media, big companies, and other politicians do not want the game to change and are far more experienced with the fear tactics. I am also disappointed that he seems obsessed with compromising with people in the Senate that will not compromise. The democratic party is strong now, what if the republicans were in power more again. If he is making such slow progress now, imagine what will happen then. Compare his first year to Clinton's or, I know this is extreme, FDR. If he manages to actually close Guantanamo bay in the next month then I will feel some relief.

This is largely part of the Bush-era hangover. For 8 years, we've had our paranoia and fear jacked as high as possible up for political purposes, to the point where we're completely irrational about it.

Takeaway lesson for everyone from this incident: don't fuck around at the airport, or we will find you and make an example of you.

Obama's M.O. is to lead with pragmatism and good government, he won't use fear as a tool to create new anti-citizen, anti-government laws like the Patriot Act. When the Repubs take power again, though, it will get ugly.
