Fried Zucchini! One of my favorite comfort foods!

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

My dad just gave me a TON of great veggies form his garden today. That included lots of zucchini. Which would happen to be my favorite squash. One of my fondest summer memories growing up, would be waking up to the smell of fried zucchini on a Saturday morning. My dad would wake up earlier, work on the garden and pick fresh zucchini. Then he would fry a lot of them up. The smell would wake me up, my room was right above the kitchen, and I would go down for that green breakfast. It would never be quite done when I came down, so I am sure I was rather annoying as I would watch and ask if it was done yet. The longer you could wait for it cook, the better it always seemed to get. Then when it got done, there was always that wait for it to cool, it seemed like an eternity over the wonderful aroma of cooked zucchini.

I decided to cook up a batch for a midnight snack tonight.

It is a really simple recipe, that it seems few people have had in their lives. Just simply slice up a few zucchini with the slicing side of a box shredder and cook in some butter. Add salt and pepper. Thats it! Really it is not “fried”, more in the sense cooked down, like fried cabbage or sautéed I suppose would be the word? Anyway Yum!

The Andy Diet explained

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

For the past 6 months I have been trying my own version of vegetarianism. It is similar to a weekend vegetarian. I thought I would share my diet with others incase you want to try or what to give me feedback or share your thoughts. It came out of my desire to eat healthy, and have less of a negative impact on the planet and its other inhabitants. All while still not missing out on enjoyment of food and culture. Continue reading for more info.

I finally finished Tea Pal 1.0 for Palm WebOS!

Friday, January 8th, 2010

After a few months of learning and coding, my Tea application is finally done! It was just submitted to Palm, so I hope they approve it with no problems. I posted the description and screen shots here on my webpage, check them out!

If this gets approved I will begin my next application. I am planing on doing one a month. It was a great learning experience . This was the first time I really worked a lot with Javascript(before I was only coping and pasting the code snippets I needed), and to be honest, I really like it.

Keith's Kettle

Unfortunately when we drove by Keith’s Kettle Family Restaurant, it was closed for the night…. Look at Keith, I know that food has got to taste great! This was somewhere in Minnesota.

I was looking through pictures from our vacation to Yellowstone today and thought I would post this one.I had to be creative on the road to get my brew on.

Tea brewing on the dash

Sure it’s not loose leaf tea, but it was nice green sun tea. :)

Homemade Tamiflu or an Italian Snow Ball as others may call it…

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

In my job I get ALOT of exposure to people, and a lot of times I have to touch their keyboards and mice, which is a breeding ground for lots of nasty bacteria and viruses. This Friday I began to get sick, soon after I find out I have been exposed to at least two confirmed cases of the “swine flu” or H1N1.  Not being a huge fan of the doctor, and preferring to do things my way, David and I decided to create a super smoothy that will kill just about any virus infection you may have. Sure it does not taste the best, but to be honest, it’s not too bad! Check it out! (more…)

USDA Beans, no music will be playing for them.

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

A while back a friend of ours gave us a bag of their USDA Pinto beans. I will not name them, because they would probably get in trouble for giving away any extra they had gotten. If you don’t know what I am talking about, they are the free ones the US Department of Agriculture gives to local governments to pass out to the poor. Which is a really cool idea, in theory. Well I decided to cook them today… (more…)
