Localized web Addresses for quick seaches!

While Foodaroo is already local, sometimes you want to search a little more local. To make it easier and quicker to set your home location, vs using the set location page. I have made a few general area web addresses for the regions that have the most restaurants. Just go to one of the following addresses to get your local independent eats in your home area.

southbend.foodaroo.com – South Bend and Mishawaka, IN

bloomington.foodaroo.com – Bloomington, IN

madison.foodaroo.com – Madison, WI

chicago.foodaroo.com – Chicago, IL

foodaroo.com – All in the database

More will be added as needed, let me know if you want one for your City! Or better yet, add more of the best restaurants in your area and I will just add one!

Giannetto’s Pizza to reopen Monday Feb 20th!

Giannetto’s Pizza holds a special place in my taste buds. It was one of the first hidden treasures I was introduced to when I first started coming to South Bend over 12 years ago. It continued to be one of my favorite places to get Chicago Pizza in town when I moved into the city limits, and was the 5th restaurant I made sure to add to foodaroo. Places like it were the main reason I made this site in fact. So when they recently closed,  to move to their new location I was quite sad. But those sad days will soon be gone again, as they will be reopening to the public again on Monday Feb 20th. While I do not have the new menu up, I have updated the address and new hours. I did love their old location, in the 100 center Mishawaka, and will really miss it. I am told the new place is bigger and even better, and can’t wait to try it.  So I recommend you check out this independently family owned and operated treasure.

Chicago, East Chicago, Whiting, Hammond, and Calumet known for Seafood?

You may not know this, but the South East Chicago and the cities of East Chicago, Whiting, Hammond, and Calumet have a long history of great seafood. At one time, this area was a major seafood trade hub. Fish from the Great Lakes, shrimp from the Golf of Mexico and other seafood from the Atlantic Ocean would be traded at markets for distribution.

Foodaroo gets a few new features including Google maps.

I have cleaned up a few things, and added a few more features to the site over the past week. One of the biggest and most useful would be google maps integration. Now you can see all the restaurants on a zoomable map. Along with that, I also added better distance searching, so if your logged in, or have set your location, you now have the option to search by “Distance”.  This was a feature we had before, but is did not work nearly as well. Also new HTML5 geolocation code has been included, so if your at a restaurant you are adding or setting your location for a search, the site can use your phone or computers location information, saving you from having to enter an address. Another change I made, was making the site more accessible. It should now work better on most smart phones, mobile devices, and screen readers. Additionally a few security improvements finnish up the list. As always contact us, if you have any issues, suggestions or feature requests!
